Natasha Kavanagh BA (Hons) MA

After studying Fine Art, Textiles and Ceramics at both Cumbria College of Art and Design and Liverpool Hope University I went on to work as a Secondary School Art Teacher for over 20 years. Working with the different elements of design led me to love the colours and textures associated through observation at the same time being exposed to senses that engage me with my work.

The title of my butterfly collection A TIME TO CHANGE embraces the flicker of colour you are exposed to as a butterfly would pass you by, and the sense that we all change in our own way. The paintings are made up of acrylic, gouache, inks and textured layers of mixed surface materials applied using a pallet knife and brushes.

Travel has played an important part in my life, gathering inspiration and an appreciation for the wider world visiting: Africa, Asia and Australasia. As an Art teacher I have taken students to Scotland (Isle of Mull), Wales (Anglesey) as well as different locations around England to explore Art and Design in its varying forms.

I am at my best when I am covered in mud from exploring, paint and materials that bring out the colours and textures that we can associate with through our own personal experience. All of my work hopes to make you feel something, captured through my mixed media approach evoking personal senses that bring you your own joy.
