Miriam Habibe

Miriam is a Welsh based artist, from a BAME South Asian heritage.

After decades of spending time being a parent and working full time, in her later years she is returning to her roots and passion in artistic expressions. Miriam aims to put this life experience into her art and create with a unique authenticity that comes from diverse experiences. This is reflected in her style which is to push the boundaries of the medium. She uses the Japanese SAORI weaving technique and its philosophy of weaving emphasises true self-expression by tapping into inner personal creativity and sensibilities.

Bolstered by a no rules, no mistakes all her work comes through “Eyes that shine” on the lookout for beauty that is around us. Traditionally Saori looms are used for cloth making, however, she is ‘breaking the rules’ which is part of Saori philosophy, to create textile art. Miriam’s art is created in the flow with different materials some found on beaches and paths; where the inner world connects to the outer environment to manifest as the perfect mirror. Having practised a form of Japanese Buddhism for over two and half decades, the Soari loom resonates well with her.

Miriam went to the High School of Art in Manchester as her secondary school education. She went onto gain 2.1 hons in Time Based Media/ Fine Art at Preston Polytechnic in 1988.

Miriam is a new and featured member to ‘North Wales Artists on Line’, and a member of the a Member of CARN Artist Collective in Gwynedd.
