Katherine Keatley

Katherine has been stitching since she was eight. She started with small simple kits and gradually taught herself other techniques and skills. Having trained as a primary schoolteacher, she taught for ten years, but due to illness, she left teaching and went to complete her Certificate from the Royal School of Needlework. She worked for Heritage Stitchcraft and ran Zweigart’s UK distribution for three years. Since 2003 Katherine has built up her business as a textile designer and tutor, focusing on traditional textiles, embroidery, felt making, and Iron Age textiles.

She also runs Timezones, using artefacts and role play to deliver hands on historical workshops to schools.

Kathereine is a complete thread junkie, and loves all threads, wools, silks... everything. The colours and texture pull her in. As a result she doesn’t like to constrain herself to using one style or technique, She likes to use what inspires her and what she wants to do at that time.

Her biggest inspiration is nature. She loves watching the seasons change, again it is colours and textures. Katherine and the dogs walk every day through woods or over mountains and there is always something that gets her creativity ticking. She is lucky to have two bases to work from, one in Mid Wales, the other near Cannock Chase: both provide her with lots of inspiration.

You can purchase her work through ArtWorks 2, or you can contact her directly. She also has a selection available in her British Craft House online shop.
